We celebrated Jared’s birthday last night at AFK Tavern. Friday is my usual work from home day, and my husband came home from his work early because he’s sick (he handed me a beautiful bouquet and said, “I got you some plant sex organs.” I love him so!). I had taken a sick day earlier in the week, and come home early myself on Thursday (though I took a short nap, logged in and worked from home for a couple more hours, took a longer nap, then worked some more, then went to bed). So I hadn’t been certain I would go to the party until just before leaving. Michael stayed home, sleeping.

Time to put up the lights!
Once again this year we didn’t get much of our decorating done during the long Thanksgiving weekend. Some of the blame goes to me trying to finish my novel by the end of the month for my Alternate NaNoWriMo. Part of the blames goes to the fact that we drove down to Mom’s the night before Thanksgiving and drove home Thanksgiving night itself, so we both slept in more than a bit longer than usual on the day after Thanksgiving.

And part of the blame goes to me having a really awful sinus headache on Sunday.

A fandom is a fandom…

I’ve recently become involved in another fandom. A new fandom which has sprung up around a television show which has just finished its second season. The fandom is in the early stages, where people are excitedly creating stories, artwork, music, and online communities to enthuse to each other aboutthis new thing they love.

A new thing which I love, too.

But I’ve been having to bite my tongue a lot lately, as I hear–again and again and again–how what’s so wonderful and unique about this fandom is how accepting it is. How it inspires so many people to create all this cool art, these cool videos, these awesome dolls, these incredible web comics, these wonderful stories. “Nothing else has ever done this!!” a 30-something engineer I met recently keeps saying again and again.

He (and the others) could not possibly be more wrong.

Every fandom that has ever existed does this. Every one.
