After six months, how are the goals?

When I set my goals for the year, I said I’d do regular check-ins. It’s a new month, I should check in!

I tried to set very concrete steps for achieving. Inspired by a friend’s suggestion, I tried to identify a better habit to replace each bad habit. So how am I doing?

Goal: Reduce the outrage.

Step: Listen to the Wait! Wait! Don’t Tell Me podcast once a week, limit the amount of time I read news during work breaks.

Progress:I didn’t listen to Wait! Wait! every week, there was one week I missed, so I listened to two the next week. I’ve been listening to a lot of music. I bought some new music, but I’ve also been testing new streaming music services to try to find one that “gets me,” if you know what I mean.

Goal: Write more regularly.

Step: Spend the reclaimed break time writing. Find other ways to motivate myself to write rather than twiddle the keys.

Progress: I didn’t do much new writing. Most of my lunchtime writing time has been planning my next book, which is a writing activity, if not actually completing many scenes of dialog.

This month I’ve signed up for Camp NaNoWriMo, and my project is to do final revisions/fixes for the novel that I hope to publish by the end of the year. And several of my friends have joined in. We’re all working on very different projects (some are doing art rather than writing), but I think we’ll have fun!

Goal: See friends for fun more, as opposed to all of my social interactions being driven by various projects.

Step: I tried to just plan a few things.

Progress: We still haven’t pulled off many just getting together for social stuff events, though we are trying to get the weekly meet up going again. I saw people for Writers’ Night and an editorial board meeting. We’ve planned another movie excursion (but for August, because that’s when the movie comes out). This weekend we’re going to two conventions and I hope to spend some fun time with friends there.

Goal: Paint, draw, and make music.

Step: Go to the Drink ‘n’ Draw gathers. Set aside some time to sketch each week.

Progress: Michael and I were out of town for May’s Drink ‘n’ Draw, and apparently there wasn’t one in June, though Michael and I were at the Pride Parade that day, any how. I actually have managed to do a little sketching, and have an idea for something I’m going to try to paint.

About fontfolly

I've loved reading for as long as I can remember. I write fantasy, science fiction, mystery, and nonfiction. I publish an anthropomorphic sci-fi/space opera literary fanzine. I attend and work on the staff for several anthropormorphics, anime, and science fiction conventions. I live in Seattle with my wonderful husband, still completely amazed that he puts up with me at all.
